Description
You are bidding on a NICE example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Pz B.W.F. 8 (Panzer Beobachtungs Winkel Fernrohr) 2.5 x 19° Bunker Periscope/Range Finder! This type of optic was most commonly used in the 486P2 Bunker Observation Bell, as well as MG Turrets.
This device was used for general observation behind an armored plate or inside a cupola. Some observation cupolas had them installed as side optics, but the MG gunner in a cupola or behind a plate also used them.
This series has an optical performance of 2,5 x 19 degrees.
it features a prism in the head, that could rotate 180 degrees horizontally. They have reticles which could be illuminated. The headrest is spring-loaded, and prevents inside light going out when there was no head before the lens (closes the optics).
The user must rest his head against the padded headrest in order to open the viewing reticle.
Used in fortifications that had a wall armor thickness of at least 12cm.
Made of solid brass, aluminum, and steel by gwr, this periscope is in VERY NOCE used condition!
It retains 90% of it's original paint and finish, however the optics are very hazy (see photo). AS such, they would need a clear. Focus adjustment functions perfectly.
One
of the 4 outer glass panels that protect the optics from weather and gas, has cracked, but this is quite common and were often replaced.
It does not interfere with the optics, but one could easily replace these panel if they wish.
Features both a vertical and horizontal reticle/gradient scale that ranges 0-160, and the manufacture information is clearly legible on the outside of the housing, indicating the manufacture gwr.
Also has a knob at the bottom that rotates the head.
Also features a mount for adding a light for night use.
I have shown where and how it was mounted in the last photos.
A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
