    Military RSVP Card General Robert C. Hixon Cocktail Party Handwritten - Thailand
    Original handwritten card sent to Capt. Edward J. Williams CEC (1968 Peltier Award - NCMB 5 Seabees) USN for a cocktail party hosted by General and Mrs. Robert C. Hixon in Thailand.
    After enlisting in 1942, Maj. Gen. Hixon fought in the European Theater during World War II. He fought in Korea and Vietnam and served at every level of command from gun section to commanding general of Fort Jackson, S.C. He served at Fort Monroe, first as a special assistant to the commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, then as TRADOC chief of staff. He was a regular member of the seminar staff that taught the Secretary of the Army's Civilian Employee Executive Development Program.
    The military decorations and awards received by Maj. Gen. Hixon include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal with 0ak Leaf Clusters, 17 awards of the Air Medal with "V" Device, and the Joint Services Commendation Medal.
    A former avid skydiver, he made more than 1,500 free-fall jumps and spent more than 15 hours in free fall. He held the Virginia high-altitude record for night jumps.
    Maj. Gen. Hixon was born at Camp Bragg, N.C., on Feb. 12, 1922. His father, Charles E. Hixon, was an Army artillery officer. Maj. Gen. Hixon earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Maryland and attended Armed Forces Staff College and National War College. He earned a master's degree in public administration from George Washington University.
    He taught at the University of Maryland and Christopher Newport College, where he was also the director of personnel and affirmative action. He earlier served as director of capital outlay at CNU. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Army Historical Advisory Board, the Assembly Against Hunger and Malnutrition, the National Rifle Association and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
