Ashtaka, the dragon takes a relaxing smoke and watches as the troll, Nicotineous, drowns in the bubbling lake. It would appear that nasty troll was going to steal his treasure, perhaps the simulated pearl necklace the dragon wears. This is a vintage Jim Rumph handmade clay art piece from 1971. The earthen
ashtray sculpture was distributed my Ceramarte of Brazil and is marked "© RUMPH 1971" and numbered 12-74 on the bottom. It measures 4.5" tall, 10.5" long, and 8" deep.
An American eccentric contemporary sculptor, James Calhoun Rumph (1942-1993) was described as a "wild and crazy guy" with a passion for life. He studied his art at the University of the Redlands and the LA School of Art. His pieces were produced in association with the Ceramarte of Brazil studio in addition to his own ventures of the Slyme Factory/Mind Circus. He enthusiastically embraced the fantasy genre during his life. His art is collected by George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Gus Lopez. His pieces include mythological and magical figures as well as Star Wars, E.T., and Superhero characters. These pieces are very collectible and sold on multiple art platforms.
