This starter is most commonly found on engines that fall within the 170, 178, and 186 family of engines, typically 5.5hp to 10hp. The starter will come as a complete assembly as shown and is ready to be mounted and connected!
This voltage regulator is an engine mounted regulator that charges the battery and effects other aspects of the electrical system, such as the starter
REPAIR NOTES - PLEASE READ
If the starter has went bad on your small diesel engine the most common cause is that the solenoid has burnt out. The starter may have burnt out due to a defect or malfunction in the engine mounted voltage regulator. If your solenoid has burned out we suggest you change the voltage regulator at the same time as the starter. If you voltage regulator does not have the inline fuse like ours does it provides no protection to the starter. It is often the case that older or cheaper regulators do not have the inline fuse and we always suggest changing them out to one with an inline fuse.
This regulator has 2 plugs with a total of 3 wires. One plug has 2 wires with blades turned opposite ways and a single wire with a single female connection. Some older regulators may have 4 wires with one of the wires having a black wire with an eye hole connector. That 4th wire is a ground wire that is used on older or cheaper models. Our regulator and many other modern regulators are self grounded through the metal case, eliminating the need for the ground wire. Contact us for assistance with connections

International shipping -
Items that ship straight from our international factories will take longer to arrive that US shipped items. Most overseas items we ship have DHL Express Services included in the price and only takes around 8 to 10 days to arrive in the US!
RETURNS / LOST ITEMS / REPAIR ISSUES
Returns -
We are always happy to take back an item that is not need, defective, or broken. If an item is simply not needed or not wanted anymore a restocking fee will apply and the buyer will be responsible for any shipping costs. You can just start a return through ebay if you wish to return an item but if you need assistance feel free to contact us.
Lost Items -
From time to time packages get lost, delayed, or destroyed in the mail. We are always happy to attempt to locate the lost package or replace it if this occurs. Before we replace the item we will attempt to locate it and get it coming to you. Please allow 48 hours to be able to attempt to locate any lost package.
Repair Issues
It can often be the case that what appears to be the issue is not or is not the only issue. When dealing with any small equipment repairs there may be additional testing required to find the exact cause of the issue. With generators that have stopped producing power or is not producing enough power there are several tests that need to be done. We are happy to help anyone with repairs issues and questions. We will NOT replace parts that we are told are defective if all the proper testing has not been done. Often 1 problem creates another but we are happy to help to find this issue and if the part is defective we are happy to replace any defective parts.
REPAIR NOTES
Below is a list of the more common issues with generator repair
All AVR's have an adjustment screw. Anytime an AVR is replaced in any generator it is possible that the AVR will need to be adjusted to that generator
If an AVR has blown on a unit that is under 1000 hours it is possible that the AVR is defective, that the unit was overloaded, that the windings jumped arc, and several other possibilities.
If a new AVR is installed and you still do not have output you will need to check the wires on the generator head, the carbon brush assembly, and all wires leading to and from the system
Anytime an AVR is replaced we do suggest replacing the carbon brush as well. If you do not replace the brush it is recommended that you inspect the brush and the brush connection area
