    c1850s Superb American 950 Silver Ropetwist Swing Handle Basket Eoff & Shepard
    Presented is a wonderful old American silver swing handle basket. This piece dates to around the 1850s, and was made by New York maker Eoff & Shepard. This piece is made from 950 purity silver, which it's worth noting is a higher standard than sterling (925). The basket is made in a handsome classic form, with a bold ropetwist design around the edge, foot, and making up the swing handle. The interior sides of the basket are fabulously hand engraved with a detailed floral design, with bright cut detailing that really catches the eye. At either end of the basket is a cartouche enclosed with a laurel band, both with the monogram NWB in detailed Gothic lettering. In smaller script lettering beneath each monogram is another inscription, one reading 'From Jennie' and the other 'Aunt Nannie.'
    This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
    This piece is stamped with the maker's mark for Eoff & Shepard of New York, as well as 950 for the purity of the silver, Ball, Black & Co for the retailer.
    The basket measures about 12 by 9 ¾ by 4 7/8 inches, LxWxH. The height with the handle raised is about 10 1/8 inches.
    This piece weighs 809 grams or 28.5 regular ounces.
