    Product Description
An exceptional fine and impressive, large antique Burmese silver thabeik bowl; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique Burmese thabeik* silver bowl has a circular rounded form.
The surface of the bowl is embellished with fine segments of embossed and chased repoussé (repousse) decoration depicting a series of iconic Burmese figures in high relief, wearing courtly and traditional dress accompanied by a variety of animals such as an elephant, snake and mule.
As with the vast majority of these bowls, the continuous frieze of figures relates to Burmese folklore.
Each segment of the decoration is bordered to the upper portion by scrolling leaf and mask ornamentation.
The scenic ornamentation is amidst bands of scrolling stylised leaf ornamentation.
The underside of this Burmese silver bowl is ornamented with a central lobed motif and contemporary engraved Burmese/Myanmar script inscription.
    * The shape of the thabeik bowl is based on alms or begging bowls used by Burmese monks. Thabeik bowls however have no ceremonial or religious use; they are purely ornamental.
    Condition
This antique Burmese silver bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
