    Description

    Earliest 1918 -1939 BELT HOOK
    for Girl Scout Knife, Whistle, for Camp Uniform
    As early as 1918, the Girl Scout catalog shows this hook that slides onto the old Khaki webbed belt.  It costs a whopping $.05 extra!  From the hook a Girl Scout could hang her knife, whistle, compass, etc.  This particular style was available for many years, and also shows on the GREEN webbed belt from 1928.
    At some time in the 1930s, the webbed belt became more narrow, and the style of the belt hook changed to a much lighter weight.
    I can't find exactly when that happened.   I do not know for sure which metal was used, but they are very sturdy and have held up well.  This one looks like "gunmetal." and there is substantial corrosion especially on the hook part, however,
    the hook works exactly as it should.
    It measures approximately 3 to 3.5 inches counting the slide and the hook.  This is in very good, not excellent Used Condition and is sturdy enough for use.  There is no hallmark.
